Probably the most cost-effective and efficient way of finding out if you have a problem caused by your drain is to have a CCTV inspection or survey of the drain. It can identify existing problems, alert you to a potential problem before it happens and even save you money!

Why would I need a CCTV drain survey?

If you have been having a persistent problem with a drain blocking, or bad odours that reoccur, or will not go away, then you really need to find out what is causing the problem. That means physically seeing what is going on in the drain. Something you can only see by sending down a CCTV camera.

How will a CCTV inspection identify the problem?

Cameras are mounted on a wheeled chassis and travel through the pipe sending back live pictures to the operators allowing them to see blockages, cracks and breakages in the pipe structure, as well as identifying any rodent infestation, or plant root egress which has cracked the pipe. Some modern cameras use lasers to accurately measure the size of cracks and breakages. By analysing the results, the operatives can then recommend the best course of action to solve your problem.

Certain areas have housing that dates back to, or pre-dates, the Victorian era. Perhaps even, the area you are buying in has a history of subsidence. If you buy a property like this without having a drain survey you could be letting yourself in for hidden costly repairs. A CCTV inspection of the drains will alert you to any existing problems or alert you to problems in the waiting.
